The ideal candidate for this role will have skills in back end development of enterprise scale web applications. You will be part of a team of developers that work closely with the solution architect, business analyst, testers and operations teams to deliver a highly available and scalable platform.

The ideal candidate has graduate qualifications in software development with an understanding of Agile methodology and an interest in developing engaging user experiences. You must have a strong work ethic, with good interpersonal communications, be willing to contribute ideas and be part of a team.

NZMS develops Recollect, which is a collection management and community engagement platform used by more than 50 customers in New Zealand and Australia.

We’re based in Grenada North, just off the motorway 15 minutes north of Wellington in a modern building with a top notch espresso machine, good street parking and a bike rack.

For over 27 years, NZMS, has been New Zealand’s leading digitisation & imaging bureau for cultural heritage materials such as photographs, manuscripts, publication, maps, and works of art.  Hosting the digital reproductions of this material is where we started, and Recollect is a vital part of our business serving a wide array of organisations who have information and digital assets they want to interact with.  Recollect was fully developed in-house and is now a mature product.  We also provide support for, and hosting of, our clients’ sites.  Refer www.recollect.co.nz

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years’ experience in PHP, MySQL, and HTML development
  • Experience in commercial PHP projects
  • Good understanding of PHP / MySQL / Apache / Nginx
  • Solid understanding of algorithm and OOP programming
  • Knowledge of design pattern
  • Solid understanding of MVC frameworks such as Laravel and CakePHP
  • Good understanding of database design and performance
  • Experience in working with Linux environment, Linux commands, and Shell
  • Experience in development and version control with SVN and Git
  • Ability to think of usability and interpret what a client wants
  • Familiar with front-end technology such as HTML, CSS (SASS/LESS), JQuery/Vue.js, etc.

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of working with AWS services and SDK
  • Experience in popular No-SQL databases, such as Redis and MongoDB
  • A firm grasp of DNS, IP addresses, ports, and domains
  • A love/hate relationship with a wide variety of browsers and versions
  • Understanding of different image and media formats
  • Open source tools for image or PDF processing such as ImageMagick and Tesseract
  • Experience dealing with vast quantities of data
