LIANZA 2014 Team Update
Last nights conference dinner was fabulous as always. NZMS channelled Eleanor Catton's "The Luminaries", in keeping with the theme of dressing as a NZ literary character. Andy was banker Charlie Frost, complete with sparkly dollar chain. He especially enjoyed the chance to talk with Witi Ihimaera over dinner (#selfie ensued). Martin enjoyed preaching at us all and blessing passers-by on Victoria Street in the role of cleric Cowell Devlin. Leigh was madam and widow Lydia Carver, and Alison dressed as the tragic opium addict and 'working girl' Anna Wetherell. Great fun with 300 librarians!
So - back to business... we have found in the past that people who have known us for years, may not always realise the scope of our activity so this year we decided to specifically feature each aspect of our business by producing 10 posters highlighting everything from our object photography, to new walk-up kiosk book scanner and RECOLLECT. The posters were a great prompt and generated some good conversations but - wouldn't you know it (!) - one person who came over to talk, looked around and said they'd worked with us before and it was a pity we didn't do CD covers.... We were able to tell her about the 37,500 CD covers we've just finished digitising - YES, we can do that - maybe that will have to be poster no. 11 for next time!
Now - off to do the prize draws... Tom & Erin from The Blind Foundation are going to help us draw 3 winners
