Storage of Master Microfilm
Your master microfilm and duplicate negative should ideally be stored in different locations to each other and to the original material. The Master Microfilm (the first generation film) should only be used to produce the Duplicate Negative; it can then retired in mint condition. The Duplicate Negative is the film used to create Service Copy Positives, which are the films in everyday use.
We offer storage in two different locations for your master microfilm and duplicate negatives. Our secure storage vault in Tawa is fire-resistant and protected by monitored security alarms. Our second facility is at our HMIF unit, based in Wellington within the National Library Building.
