What Is Microfilm?
Microfilm is a process that reduces images down to a size so that they can't be read without a loupe or a reader. This compression means that there is up to a 99% storage saving.
Types of microfilm we use:
Silver Halide Camera Film:
This master film uses a silver emulsion on a polyester base, when properly processed and stored it has a life expectancy of approximately 500 years. Its polarity is negative and because of its high resolution and ability to recognise varying colours and contrast this film has a greater tonal range, making it suitable for capture of manuscripts through to engineering plans.
Silver Halide Duplicating:
- REVERSAL, produces a Positive image from Negative, (Silver Halide Positive)
- DIRECT DUPLICATING, Negative to Negative (Negative Intermediate)
